2011 Stadium Lite Buggy

13Motorsports is proud to announce the addition of a 2011 Stadium Lite buggy to this years race line-up. Check out the race pictures below and pick up one of the limited edition race shirts below!

Autumn - as we call her - is a single seat buggy. Powered by a Briggs Vanguard V-Twin air-cooled engine that puts out 50+ hp, it is a rocket through the woods!

After drivetrain complications during the first and second TREC races, the team came out swinging in the third endurance race of the season. Well, the third TREC race
was an interesting event! Daytime temperatures approached 100º! Right off the bat, the team ran into a mild obstacle. Initial shakedown run only lasted for two miles before the throttle stuck almost wide open. After discovering a melted throttle cable and an extremely hot alternator, we towed it back to the pits to teardown and evaluate.

We scrounged up a Polaris RZR throttle cable and adapted it to the buggy. It fit so well that I think we found our new cable from here on out! The alternator was a different story though. The 3-wire Chevy alternator was not operating properly, resulting in overcharging the system at 18+ volts. Clay and I drove 70+ miles to find a Chevy 1-wire alternator to replace the faulty unit that melted and welded the throttle cable. After returning to the track and the extreme heat, we went out for a couple shakedown runs of the redesigned track. The car ran great the whole time with consistent traction and power! Just as the drivers meeting got started at 7:00 pm, the skies darkened and a few rain drops hit the anxious drivers. We staged up to start off the hour long race as lightening filled the northern sky. As there was only one other competitor in my class, I had to finish just one lap in order to get points. We agreed that I would take the first lap at 75%.

The first lap was dusty and crowded as dozens of race vehicles in all classes filled the track. The MAORA series also raced this event, bringing several trucks and Super Buggies to the TREC track. After the first lap, I opened the Briggs V-Twin up and ran full throttle, pushing the car to its limits. At the same time, the skies opened up and torrential rain filled the skies. The five mile track quickly filled with mud holes and flash floods. Those track conditions were prime for the 13Motorsports buggy! The DWT/Goldspeed tires hooked up and the car ripped through the woods and dunes alike! The new transmission and RCV axles/CV’s held the power from the Briggs V-twin engine. I had no problem passing and lapping several super buggies in the MAORA class as well as Class A rock racers. The super unlimited UTV's stayed a half lap around of me for the hour long race. The TrailTech computer logged speeds in the mid 50mph range over the water-logged track. The SteelMX goggles and tearoffs kept my vision clean while the Cal– X and Calibre Inc laser-cut components held together the suspension as the buggy flew over the two foot whoops. The Amsoil synthetic motor oil kept the engine running strong even at 300ºF oil temps! Towards the final laps, the rains slowed and the lightening increased, illuminating mud puddles as deep as the tires. I was running strong through the final lap when I crested a steep hill and struck a rock with a loud popping sound. Thinking I had a flat rear tire or mangled shock, I slowed to a 50% throttle to claim the checkered flag. The other Stadium Lite buggy in the class pulled out sometime during the race, leaving the buggy of 13Motorsports to take first place. Time to clean and prep for the next race!
